About this tool
How the AI drone inspection report generator works
The Drone Survey Network AI report generator uses GPT-4 Vision to analyse drone imagery and produce a structured inspection report in seconds. Upload up to five images from a drone survey or inspection flight, and the tool will identify visible defects, assign a condition severity rating on a 1–5 scale, and produce a formatted report with an executive summary, per-image findings, and recommended actions.
The tool is designed for drone pilots, property managers, facilities teams, and construction professionals who need a rapid first-pass assessment of a structure or site. It is particularly useful for roof surveys, facade inspections, and construction progress reviews where a quick written summary is needed before a full professional report is commissioned.
What the AI analyses
GPT-4 Vision processes each uploaded image and looks for common defect indicators: cracking, spalling, water staining, vegetation ingress, damaged or missing materials, corrosion, deformation, and surface deterioration. For roof surveys, it identifies failed flashings, ponding areas, and membrane damage. For structural inspections, it flags visible cracks, efflorescence, and joint failures. The AI assigns each finding a severity grade and explains its reasoning in plain language.
The condition rating scale runs from 1 (no action required — structure in good condition) to 5 (immediate intervention required — significant defect posing a safety or structural risk). Ratings 3 and above are highlighted in the report and accompanied by a recommended remedial action. The executive summary provides an overall site condition grade based on the aggregate of individual findings.
Limitations and when to commission a full survey
The AI report generator is a screening tool, not a substitute for a professionally conducted drone survey with a certified operator. It cannot assess structural integrity, measure crack widths, identify subsurface defects, or produce georeferenced data. Reports generated by this tool are not suitable for insurance claims, planning applications, building regulations submissions, or any purpose requiring a legally admissible condition record.
For those applications, a full drone survey carried out by a CAA GVC or FAA Part 107 certified pilot — with GPS-tagged imagery, a professional condition report, and the operator's certification details — is required. Drone Survey Network can mobilise a certified pilot to your site within 24–48 hours across the UK and USA. View our survey pricing or discuss your project to get a quote.
